Which Social media sites should your business use

Choosing the best social site for your business

With all the social media sites out there and there is a lot of them, which ones should you use for your business? Well from an SEO stand point it is worth while to have a business profile on all of them. At least on all the major players in the social media space. Such asFacebookTwitterGoogle+,PinterestInstagram and Linkedin for starters. It is practical and a good way to have some links to your website coming from authority sites like these. This will help your site when it comes to search results. There are a number of other sites as well that are not so much social media but even blogging sites that are good places to get links from as well as making use of the blogging sites and using them to share content about your business. Sites like Blogger, TumblrWordPressBlogger.com, and Weebly. These are places that you can create a home for your business and actually gain followers and express yourself about your business a little more freely.
If you are in the branding phase of your business I would suggest using as many of these sites as possible even if it’s just setting them up. You want to make a nice foot print for Google to see and help your business stand out. Now as far as which site’s to use the most you are going to want to do a little homework. Of course Facebook should be a primary candidate for your business, but don’t just start posting. Take your time to check out your competition and see what others are doing. Do this for all the sites you plan on setting up an account on. Take the time to see what type of content they are posting and what posts are getting engagement and try to do something similar. So my advise goes like this. Don’t try to cover every site out there with content, pick 2 or 3 that you see others doing well on and concentrate your efforts there.
You can check out another post where I explain how to use Facebook for business pages and see what it takes to make your business stand out on Facebook. One more useful post is How to link your Facebook to your Twitter account

Google+ announces 300 Million monthly users

Google+ Making a mark in Social Media

Google announced yesterday that they are at 300 million monthly active users. This is nothing to take lightly especially if you are a business and your not using the other social media giant. That's right Google+ is gaining headway in the Social landscape. Granted they are still a long way's away from the numbers of Facebook, but with numbers like this you would be a fool not to be using it to gain attention from your audience. Along with the 300 Million number Google stated that when they included metrics from the +1 and features like plugins they have a staggering reach of 540 Million users.

If you're not using Google+ you are leaving customers to be had by your competitors.

It's no surprise that Google+ is doing so well and could be considered on the tail of the Social giant Facebook. If you use Google+ you will notice a couple of things, or at least this is what I notice. Things like more intellectual posts from user's for one. Whenever I log on to my Google Plus account and browse my news feed I'm always pleasantly surprised at the quality of content posted. Sure you have to know who to follow to see the good content but that is easily done with the aid of suggestions from Google.  There are a lot of interesting people and companies on Google Plus that deliver great content to absorb. I don't see to much marketing which is also a nice thing for a change. Don't get me wrong there are a fair amount of people publishing links to their content that they are trying to share but again it is usually good stuff.
So as a marketer that helps businesses reach more potential customers I strongly recommend that you start using Google Plus if you havent already. Just like any other social network it takes time to build an audience but if you follow suite of others and post quality content and engage with others you will find yourself quickly getting more traffic to your site. One of the main attractions to using Google Plus over others is how they index all of your posts to show up in the search engine that they own, Google. This is a huge benefit when you want to reach more people. Say you post an article that is relevant to someone searching the net, your article just might show up above the fold telling the person searching that this content is a great match for what you are looking for, and Bam you have yourself a new prospect.
In my opinion Google has a more mature audience than Facebook who is actually losing the younger demographics according to recent surveys. Take it from me and give it a try if you haven't yet and if you have created an account and haven't used it by all means start using it. You will be pleasantly surprised I'm sure.
What are your thoughts or experiences with Google Plus? I'd love to hear it let me know in the comment section below this post.

Facebooks Other inbox

Did you know that you have what could be seen as a spam folder for your Facebook messages.  I felt I had to write a quick post on this as it could be an important message you are missing out on inside of Facebook. Everyone seems to enjoy the privacy of private messages inside of Facebook. Knowing that you are for the most part only getting messages from people you are friends with. But, did you know there is another folder to catch messages sent from people you are not connected with? I noticed this a while back and just brushed it off until recently when someone tried to contact me about business and the message didn’t get read for a week. Because it sat in my “Other” folder that you don’t even see unless you open your messages in it’s own window on a PC.  Here is a screenshot of what the Other folder looks like.
Other messages

You should check this folder at least every day or two.

I feel it’s important to know that this folder exists on Facebook if you own a business. Someone may be interested in doing business with you but are not friends on Facebook. So you know what happens when they send a message to you, it goes to your Other folder. Go to your messages tab inside Facebook and look carefully at the shaded area showing what folder you are in. Of course it takes you directly to your inbox but as shown above you can click on the “Other” tab and see any messages you may have from anyone that is not on your friends list. I would hate to see someone miss a potential business transaction because they didn’t get a message that was intended for them but thrown into the shadows of the depths of a spam folder. I hope someone finds this post helpful and will get some use out of knowing just a bit more about Facebook.

The cost of sending a message to strangers

Quickly, I just thought it would be worth mentioning. About a week ago I wanted to send a message to a business owner that I am not connected with. I created the brief message and when I went to click send, there was a message saying. You are not connected to xyz so your message will be sent to their “other” folder. For $1 you can have your message sent directly to their inbox. I almost shit lol Facebook was charging a dollar to send a message to someone I was not connected to. I found that to be very strange, but it was true. Have you ever seen this message? Let me know in the comment section below. If you found this post informative share it and let the world know so they don’t ever miss an important message.

Will the Google update affect my business

The Google Hummingbird Update

So you may have heard by now about the latest update that Google has unleashed is called the Hummingbird. This is the boldest update and algorithm change since 2009, and it has been active for about a month or more. So if you are wondering if it will affect your site and you haven't seen any dramatic changes yet then you are probably all set.

What did the Hummingbird update do?

Well it is Googles way of reading your mind. They have started digging deeper into what people are searching for. As well as making long tail keywords a bit more effective. Using data obtained from mobile search has sparked a lot of interesting results. With a whopping estimated 34% of searches coming from mobile and half of those searches being created via voice search. Google knows how important mobile is in the search world. So to make a long story shorter the update is going to help those that are developing their sites to be mobile friendly as well as drawing a lot of data from indexed social media sites and posts. Taking into consideration factors such as comments likes and shares.
With all this new data Google is trying to read your mind. Giving you results that they see as more relevant to you by the way you search. The two word search terms are not dead but starting to fall in comparison to the long tail keywords being produced from mobile devices.

In short Hummingbird should be a good thing, there hasn't been any major complaints like when Google announced their other furry friends like Penguin and Panda. So revel in this change and start creating good content that is directly related to your industry, topic and posts. The new update is like a bloodhound dog. It is sniffing around to bring you more information that is related to your search query.  By using the new update which is also supposed to be faster as well, your search results will be more personalized and robust. I guess time will tell and we can always bitch about what it doesn't do.
